OK working moms, when do you exercise? (Really this question could be for moms in general, but having been a stay-at-home mom as well, I can speak from my own experience that it is easier to find time to do things when I'm not out of the house for 50+ hours per week.) I got up this morning to ride my bike or go for a walk, and it's 5:30 and still dark out. This isn't going to work. Tomorrow morning I'm going to have to get up and go to the Y to get it done in the morning, because I can't sit around waiting for the sun to come up! Are you kidding me? The one freaking day I decide to get up and exercise, and it's going to stay dark forever?
After I had David I walked with a group of stay-at-home moms I'm friends with. We walked in the park every morning, Monday-Friday. By doing that and following Weight Watchers, I lost almost 50 pounds. I've found most of that again. Lucky me. Now, two more children and a full-time job later, it's harder and harder for me to find the time to spend on myself. I need to. We're members at the YMCA, which is great in theory. I would love to go when I get home, but we have the chaotic dinner, bath, (and soon) work on school, football practice, see-my-children-for-2-hours-per-day madness that happens. I feel like my most viable option is to be at the Y at 5:00 when it opens in the morning. You know, sort of like the crazy mall shoppers used to be waiting outside my store before the mall would open. If I get all of our clothes ready the night before, get lunches packed and school stuff ready, I think that I would have time to go to the Y, work out, then come home and shower for work. School starts next week, and we need to be out the door by 7:00. I feel like we'll have plenty of time. Then I will walk the dogs at night after the kids go to bed. In theory I would walk the dogs in the morning, but they're lazy and can't be bothered to wake up before 7 for a walk.
Ugh. No wonder so many people are fat. It's easier.

I am in the same boat. Only Joe leaves for work at 4:30am so I can not even go in the am. I completely understand your frustration. If you figure it out let me know.
Hey Kim,
I also have the exercise problem! We canceled our Y membership because I couldn't justify giving them $100 donation every month. I think we are getting ready to join again :)
When I was working, I used to go to the gym or for walks on my lunch break. I was lucky that there was a Gym really close to my work and it gave me a break in my day. I also felt it didn't take away from my time with Tyler at night. Now that I have Justin, I think the Y will have to happen after we drop Tyler off at school. Could you go after you put the kids to bed? Working out at night is great to curb evening snacking (a real big problem at our house!).
Hope you figure it out...you need to carve out some time for yourself!
Uh, yeah I am with Danielle. I cancelled our Y membership too because we NEVER went. I have an elliptical in my garage and I hardly find the time. I like doing a video (Jillian's 30 Day Shred or Walk Away the Pounds.) I also try to park far away and walk and take the stairs and I keep weights in my bedroom. If I get in 10 minutes, I am lying to myself and saying that is better than nothing! Because let's face it....not eating sweets just ain't gonna happen. I am in the same boat. Love you and let's definitely do lunch soon.
XO KJ
Hey Girl,
Looks like I can comment again..phew!
Well I can tell you that I work out two mornings a wk at 5:30. I get up at 5 to get to the gym for 5:30. On M, W and F I drag the kids. Tue & Thurs mornings we have gymnastics and ballet, so I go early and I do love it. Once you get used to it it does get easier. It is also so nice to get it over with EARLY!
My friend Jen works full time and is training for Tris! She has done a ton and if she can find the time I don't have any excuses. I know she runs on her lunch hour and sometimes swims. She also does the early AM thing for bike rides etc. She currently has to work out twice a day for her training.
Good luck...it's not easy and you know how some days I just want to be FAT! :)
I get up at the butt crack of dawn to work out. It's the ONLY way I have time. Otherwise, it's not going to happen.
