Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!
We were a little late with our carving this year.
Like, we did it today.

And by "We", I don't mean me.
In fact, I don't even think I touched one during the carving process.

What?
You don't carve pumpkins in your underpants?

Henry (Chris' little clone) got into it this year.

Jack?  Notsomuch.
(Doesn't he look like a baby in this picture?!)
Not as much as he did in these pictures.

No big surprise, David was not into the pumpkin process.
You have to get slightly dirty, and he just doesn't do that.

Chris on the other hand?
Seriously into carving pumpkins.
As in, spent the whole afternoon doing it.
By hand, not with any sort of tools other than those bought in the $7.00 carving kits at Wal-Mart.

David?  Indiana Jones.
First seen in 2008 at Halloween, and in playrooms all over town since then.
However, we had purchased him the Buzz Lightyear costume for this year. . .
Henry picked a Woody costume, but decided he would be Buzz.
Jack?  He was going to be Woody too.
Until this morning, when he decided that he really wanted to be Batman.
Well sure, no problem.
I mean, there's a plethora of costumes to choose from on the day of trick or treating.
I got the single Batman costume in Bedford County, I think, that was reasonably close to his size.
And really?  It's not close to his size.
I just made it be close to his size, because I can craftily hide pins in a 2 year old's costume.

A house, that is supposed to be representative of our house, and my only pumpkin request - the S.
A crazy face, a scary face, and a Bat signal for Jack.

I love our house.
Happy Halloween!

Bad Dogs? Bad Owners.

Who knew that moving could cause housebroken dogs to not be housebroken anymore?!  I mean, I guess it totally makes sense - new house, new environment, lots of changes, etc.  I just didn't consider that.  Nor did I consider that Max and Georgia would pee and poop all. over. my. damn. house.  But not on one of the many non-carpeted floors.  Oh no.  That would be too easy.  In fact, there are 12 different rooms or hallways that they could pee and poop in, and it would be on wood or tile.  Do they?  Of course not.  They find the best area rug they can locate and do it there.  What?!  WHY!?  Apparently they prefer to pee on an absorbent surface. . . trust me, because I googled it.  They are now only permitted in the kitchen and laundry room.  I have the doors to the living room closed so they can't get out of the kitchen.  (I guess the FIVE doors in the living room situation is paying off in this case.)  I did have a gate across one of them, but Georgia hopped that in about 13 seconds.  She should have been a circus dog.  They probably pee wherever they want.

House Tour

Let's have a little tour, shall we?
Clearly this is the bathroom.  The only bathroom.

My favorite part about this picture?  David and Henry were taking a bath when I took it.

The dining room is up next for paint. . .

And for some attention to the windows.

I. love. my. living. room.

I got this table at a little junky antique store over the weekend for $40.
It's perfect for this space.

I love this lamp - it's a rooster lamp, and it's pair is in the foyer.
This is the view from the living room to the bathroom.
There's a storage area behind the door that has our towels, etc. stored.
However, I am in search of a pie-safeish cabinet for the towel storage.

I love our breakfast room.

I have a lot of my milk glass and some silver pieces in the hutch.
I was iffy about it at first, but I really like it.
I will still paint it eventually, I think.
I have play-doh and art stuff stored in the bottom for the boys.

This is, hands down, the best $200 I've spent since we moved in.

That little storage cabinet has our dog stuff in it.  And nothing in the bottom.
Trust me, it won't take long to fill it up.

I love my kitchen.  Like, pink puffy heart love it.
The drawers?  Perfect.
The cabinets?  Perfect.
I probably would not change a single thing about it.

Ignore the dirty dishes. . .

And box of cleaning supplies.
At least you know I clean.

I thought about not showing the laundry room.
Because it's a mess.
But. . . how clean is your laundry room?

We do laundry in here, nothing exciting.

Having an actual laundry room , as opposed to a laundry closet, is fabulous.

This is our foyer, which has changed several times already.
The S is on the chair because we are hanging the S "collection" on the walls around the chair.

And I thought about cleaning all of this up, but a decorator doesn't live here.
A 2 year old does though, and he's been playing in the chair.

All of the boys are in the same room.
I have matching bedding for them.  In a box somewhere.
David's bedskirt is also in that box.

This is the playroom, which is adjoining the boys' room.
David looked at the photo and said, "Well, the playroom is only half a wreck."

Our office area is this little nook at the top of the stairs.
I really like it for this purpose.

It's exactly the amount of space we need.
And it's cozy.
We've got a few more things to add, but not major changes
Not shown?  The master bedroom, porch, patio, and guest room.  Those are not fit for public viewing yet.
Hopefully they will be soon. . .
It's not perfect yet, and I suspect it never will be, as we'll always be changing something.
However, for only being in for three weeks, I'm very happy with the progress we've made!

We Have Paint!

We painted the living room, and I love it!

We used the Eddie Bauer Coffee Bean color in a Valspar paint from Lowe's.

It's quite dark, but I pink puffy heart love it.

With the cream slipcover, the white trim work, and the wood floors, I think it softens the dark walls.  I'm going to go today to look for new fabric for window treatments and to make new cushion covers for the chairs.

I'm also thinking of doing some sort of fabric square hanging type thing on one wall to bring some texture in.  I'm so excited to get started painting and making the house "our's".
Next up?  The dining room.
